Now part of the Greene King chain, the building was originally a Georgian mansion built in 1830, pulled down in 1876 and rebuilt in its current location brick by brick. It was converted to a pub by Vaux in 1964. The venue now has a reputation for quality food, with a separate restaurant, bar area, function room and outside smoking area with TV. The function room is licensed for weddings.

Large distinctive city centre pub; the original building was called The Peacock from 1770 and renamed The Londonderry in 1834. The Shipwrights is one of the oldest pubs in Sunderland, dating back to the 1850' s when there were half a dozen shipyards in the area. The pub is situated next to the River Wear near the end of Ferryboat Lane - a no through road off the A1231. Multi-roomed , decorated in Tudor Style with low beams. Meals are served daily with specials such as Steak on Wednesday evenings and a Curry night on Thursday. There is a small beer garden opposite literally overlooking the river. The Coast to Coast cycle path passes nearby. The bus service is over half a mile away on the other side of the A1231 ( Broadway). Note 4pm opening Monday- Thursday

There are two drinking areas, the larger of the two , facing Newcastle Road, has 3 handpulls, 2 Doom Bar and 1 Hobgoblin at last visit (Nov 19). Very much a diners pub, meals are served all day. There is a large car park and buses (which stop nearby) travel to Sunderland Centre, South Shields, Seaburn Sea Front and Jarrow.

The Harbour View is a modern local pub. Six hand pulls are changed regularly and the cask ales are chosen by local CAMRA members. Boards behind the bar display the Brewer, name of ale and ABV. One of Sunderland's oldest public houses dating back to 1834, the pub is adjacent to the industrial area of Deptford, next to the River Wear. Regular beer festivals, live music and barbecues are held in a marquee to the rear. A former CAMRA local Pub of the Year and North East award winner.

Note driving in from the north involves passing the pub then doubling back round a roundabout. Reported by visiting CAMRA member as no real ale.
