Situated just off the main road with reasonable parking outside and in side streets, this is a quiet haven for a pint of local ales or a fine coffee, with simple snacks. It's cream modern furniture and tables are very comfortable, making this a perfect place for a family snack or a chin-wag with pals. One wall has an impressive mural of a Venice canal, and other walls have a varied range of interesting posters and pictures, and often candle-lit in the evenings. Small family sized functions are usually held on Monday through Wednesdays.

The bar can be found in Jaxon's Court, in the Victorian Quarter of Wigan town centre, conveniently located adjacent to the bus station. The bar provides an inviting and relaxed atmosphere. The staff are friendly, welcoming and happy to provide advice on the good selection of drinks available. The bar itself is split over three areas, the main bar, an upstairs seating area and a pleasant heated undercover back room, where live music is hosted on Sunday afternoons. On the bar can be found up to six real ales, four real ciders and three craft beers, served in pints, halves or in a paddle of three thirds.

Sacred Heart Parish Centre

Note that no membership is required in order to enter and enjoy the bar and facilities. A warm, cosy and comfortable club tucked away beside Sacred Heart Catholic Parish Church in Springfield. The current Parish Centre was built in 1904 as the original Sacred Heart Parish Church, and served that purpose until the current Parish Church opened in 1938. The bar is now placed where the altar used to be, and the lancet windows in the upstairs snooker room overlook the original (now closed) entrance facing Stratford Street. The centre hosts local social clubs and activities most afternoons. The evening highlights are The Ronnie Moore 17-piece Big Band every Wednesday and live cabaret on Saturday. The function room is available for hire on Fridays, Saturday afternoons and Sunday afternoons. There are two full size snooker tables, darts and dominoes. Full wheelchair access is available via ramp and lift, with separate disabled toilet.

Bailiff Bar

Basement style bar set within The Old Courts building which is a Not for Profit multi-arts venue featuring an art gallery, artist studios, two music venues, bars, band practice rooms and cellar cinema with plans to have an art café and theatre in the near future The building dates from 1887 and retains much of its original charm, including a Victorian courtroom and adjoining prison cells.

The Venture is a traditional village pub situated near the cricket ground and bowling green. There used to be a lodge belonging to the 'Venture Coal Mine' on this site and the pub was built in a similar style. It is a Sizzling pub with food specials on Tues/Weds & Thurs. There is a decked patio area with heaters and outdoor seating although smokers tend to stand just outside the main entrance. Children's menu, but under-18s not welcome in games room. The Hawk provides a real community pub for the area around Hawkley Hall. It has excellent car parking and easy access with a fully fitted Disabled persons WC including baby changing facilities. It has a light and airy in feel and plenty of atmosphere. The games room has plenty of Wigan football and rugby memorabilia, and a couple of TVs which cover the matches. It has a very comfortable lounge and nice beer garden. For the visitor, it's a little off the town centre, but well worth the effort if you're on the way to or from a match, when John and his staff will give you a warm welcome.

Known to everyone as the The 'En 'Ole. Popular, classic, community pub which suffered from a period in the doldrums followed by closure. Was threatened with conversion to apartments until rescued and re-opened in November 2012 in its current form. Completely refurbished, with a new cellar and a dining/function room extension. It still retains some of its original frosted glass windows, and a splendid tiled mosaic nameplate running the whole width of the original frontage.

Built in 1898 by WEV Crompton, this beautiful classic period pub has seven handpumps celebrating Draught Bass along with Banks Sunbeam, Courage Directors. Harrys Bar

Formerly the Clarence Hotel, this late Victorian (1898) Grade II listed building is impressive both inside and out. beyond the entrance porch there is a long, tiled and wood panelled main room with two smaller front rooms either side looking out onto the street. A grand internal staircase leads up to a comfortable first floor cocktail bar directly over the main entrance - although this is sadly no longer in use. In the Good Beer Guide several times. The Berkeley is a former coaching house opposite Wallgate rail station and three minutes from Wigan North Western. Food served daily from noon till seven. The large bar hosts a range of rotating guest beers. Great bands on usually Fridays.

Pub in The Good Beer Guide several times. This surprisingly large basement pub. From the bar you enter a large back room that features regular entertainment. Live music is performed on Friday and Saturday. Open until very late, it is close to Wigan Wallgate and North Western train stations. Three ciders, one permanent Moorhouses beer and three guest beers. Winner of CAMRA Wigan New Cask Outlet award for 2007 and Pub of the Season Autumn 2007.

Raven

Reopened Christmas 2012 after having a full refurbishment and revealing its traditional decor. A superb example of an early 1900's Commercial Hotel. 5 handpumps offering real ale plus 2 more offering real cider (usually Black Dragon from Gwynnt Y Ddraig and a Guest) Tetley Cask Bitter is always available, along with one other "bitter", two blonde beers and a dark beer. Really cosy in winter with proper coal fires and two unobtrusive televisions. Many of the original features are retained including panelling, windows. Voted a Wigan Pub of the Season in 2013. The Millstone is a modern pub with a conservatory extension but has a traditional feel. There is a beer garden to the rear and a sheltered smoking area. Former Peter Walker house (then Tetley's), refurbished and reopened by Holts; and a good job they've made of it, with sensitive use of glass and dark wood. Upholstery above-average; perhaps too many murals, although there is an interesting collection of framed cigarette cards featuring famous musicians of yore. Function room.
