Large open-plan Wetherspoon pub housed in a former snooker hall and ice cream parlour. It is named after a Norman knight and lord of the manor whose descendants later emigrated to the United States. The pub offers value-for-money beer and the usual well-priced Wetherspoon menu. The regular ales are complemented by up to four guests and at least two real ciders. Twice yearly beer festivals are held and a large selection of local and international bottled beers are now available. There is a bus station opposite the pub. A beer garden protected by a tall fence, has been provided to the side of the pub. Recipient of a CAMRA Lockdown Hero Recognition Award

Opened in 1894 as the Spout Lane Inn and renamed The Steps in 1976. The small, comfortable single room lounge bar is divided into two drinking areas; the walls are decorated with pictures of old Washington. Five changing real ales are on offer some of which are often chosen by pub regulars. Tuesday is quiz night, with free supper. There is live entertainment on the last Saturday of the month.. Well established and popular pub facing Washington Village Green. Built in 1828 makes it one of the oldest pubs in the area. It changed its name from The Commercial Hotel in 1937. There are 3 distinct drinking areas and a large garden at the rear. After a redecoration in early 2018 a third handpull was installed. ( The handpulls are in the bar as you walk in). Beers are rotated and there will always be at least 1 blonde ale available There is a 10% discount for CAMRA members - be sure to ask as no visible signage. The sign on the front of the Bird Inn says 1915, but there is documentation that the first licensee was in 1890. The pub benefited from a major refurbishment in 2016. Wednesday night is poker night and a buskers night is held on Thursday. There is a small garden at the back of the pub which looks out over a large car park. Plenty of buses at Concord bus station nearby.
