Large 1930s pub (Arkell's biggest pub) by a busy roundabout in north Swindon. It underwent major refurbishment in 2004. It is now a large and airy L-shaped bar/lounge with strong colours. Several slightly raised areas with banisters exist that have comfortable settees and armchairs. The pub has darts, crib and pool teams. There is a large attractively furnished function room with its own bar at the back, ideal for parties and other events.

This large open plan pub has lots of comfortable seating, friendly staff and can get quite busy at times. There are 8 hand pumps for ale, including 2 regular beers and up to 6 guest ales. The six guest beers rotate from a selection of 12 ales which change quarterly. CAMRA members get a 20p discount per pint (exc. Mondays when all ale is £2.49 a pint). There are also 3 real ciders available. Food is served every day from 10am to 10pm. Quiz Night every Wednesday and Sunday. Poker Night every Monday. Live music on the last Saturday of the month. There will be a music festival in the car park and garden during July.

A busy and popular local with the same landlady for almost ten years. There are pool, darts and crib teams and themed nights. They have country music sessions fortnightly on Thursday evenings. There is a smart dining room extension that also doubles as a function room together with a beer garden with barbecue facilities. Large dining room extension built and opened summer 2013. They are Cask Marque accredited and stock Weston’s ‘Old Rosie’ cider. 'The Bakers' celebrated a century of ownership by Arkell's in 1996, but it was built back in 1847 by William Slade of Moredon. He also owned The Red Lion (now renamed The Boundary House) even though by trade he was a butcher! A major renovation in 1956 and an extension in 1984 & 2013 have brought the Bakers Arms up-to-date - but not too up-to-date. This is a no-frills pub and as such belongs to a rare breed of traditional British locals.

The Tuppenny opened in November 2016 in premises formally used as a hairdressers. The emphasis is on craft drinks with a range of keg craft from the likes of Renegade, Electric Bear and others. There are two handpumps on the bar serving real ales from the West Berkshire brewery. The inside has a low ceiling and is quite dark giving it a cosy feel, although it can become a bit of a squash when it is busy. The name comes from the Victorian Tuppenny gin which was a more refined premium product than the infamous “Mother’s ruin” gin. Free WiFi. Open from 8.30 till 12.00 for coffee and cake.

It gets very busy on match days, but is a down to earth local otherwise. Draft beer is only available on weekends and match days, otherwise there is a selection of bottled beers. A disco takes place Friday nights and there is karaoke on Saturday & Sunday nights. It has an enclosed garden at the rear and area that can be set aside for functions. Occasional theme nights.

There are five handpumps dedicated to Arkell's beers, with a further three for cider and perry - mostly Weston's and Thatcher’s. There is live music on Sunday evenings. There is a public car park at the rear, but charges apply.

The inside is compact and well laid out with a small additional room at the back. There is a small terrace at the rear overlooking what used to be a railway line. There is only one real ale, Arkell's 3Bs. There is a quiz on Tuesday evenings.

Although called the Rising Sun for more than a century it was always known as the Roaring Donkey; a name it formally adopted in 1999.
