Some 160 years old, the pub is on the north side of town near the A339 ring road. After a period of being closed and looking very likely never to reopen, the Soldiers gained a new lease of life becoming a focal point for the local community. Good value food and themed evenings balance nicely with discos and music quiz nights. The front of the pub overlooks the playing fields opposite. There are usually two guest ales alongside the London Pride, often from local Basingstoke brewery Longdog.
