This 1830s pub is now one of Basingstoke's very few remaining historic hostelries. The present name acknowledges a gift of land to the people of Basingstoke from local brewer and entrepreneur John May, and it included the adjacent cricket ground. The pub caters for a wide-ranging clientele including those wishing to partake of the high-quality food. There is a pleasant south-facing rear garden. Hardy males might appreciate the last remaining outside gents' toilet in the town. Usually three ales are served. Popular quiz night on Tuesdays.

We are a very traditional pub, serving a selection of classic beers along with a variety of pub food including Jim's homemade burgers.The Royal Oak has a few car parking spaces at the front of the building with additional parking at the back of the pub on the industrial estate.The pub itself has a small beer garden situated to the side of the building too.Inside we have two pool tables & a dartboard in the public bar, and show both Sky Sports & BT Sport.We also cater for all family occasions, celebrations and gatherings from as little as £6 per head, depending on the party size.The pub highlights in the evening are that we have two pool teams and a crib team that are always looking for new players to join.The Royal Oak has also been the home of the Boozingstoke Rockabilly's since 2014 and hold a Rockabilly night here once a month.
