Brewhouse

This multi-award winning pub has been a long established feature of Poole High Street, and a reliable source of interesting ales from both Frome Brewery and well-chosen ales from national microbreweries. Real cider is also available. On entrance from the High Street you find tables in the window and past the busy bar area there is an area for pool and darts. Dogs are welcome in this no frills traditional community pub which offers a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike.

The good value home cooked food is worthwhile investigating, but finishes early on Sunday for the quiz. Pictures and artefacts around the L-shaped bar follow either a military or local theme while the cellar bar, a converted air raid shelter, offers an interesting alternative and occasional live music at weekends. An excellent first floor function room is available for hire.

The pub is Poole's former main library, built in the late 19th century on a site donated by lord of the manor, Lord Wimborne.The Free Library was opened by the earl of Ilchester, Lord Lieutenant of Dorset and Poole, while the Schools of Science and Art were opened by Lord Wimborne. He also headed the subscription list to equip the new building, and his mother, Lady Charlotte, also contributed.
