Named after the pioneering surgeon of the 1300's, this is Wetherspoon's contribution to the Newark pub scene.It carries the usual 'spoons fayre, plus a LocAle. Tasters are given on request. The seating outside makes for a pleasant afternoon's people-watching on sunny days.Typical open plan Wetherspoons house situated in the market place. Can get very busy at times with diners, particularly at weekends and market days.

Roaring Meg

Renamed the Roaring Meg in May 2013 after a short period of closure, this no frills Victorian street corner local is a five minute walk from the town centre. It consists of two contrasting bars, a large ‘L’ shaped basic bar at front and square bar at rear which has a pool table and a dartboard. There is a wall painting above the bar depicting a market scene. Very much a drinkers’ pub.

Located between Newark Castle and the Market Square. This Grade II listed building dates back to c.1452 and was licensed shortly after. It was restored by the Thurlby group, now Knead pubs in 2010 to magnificent effect. It comprises of several rooms and snugs on two levels, where the beamed, vaulted ceiling of the original Wealden House can be seen. Voted 2011 CAMRA Newark Pub of the Year, six handpumps, with an ever-changing range of ales, real cider also available. Regular live music and open mic events take place and It also hosts occasional beer festivals including the annual Newark Beermuda triangle festival. A selection of traditional pub food and stone baked pizzas are available using fresh local produce. Private rooms are available for functions and meetings. Acquired by the RedCat Pub Company in August 2021.

Friendly Micropub concentrating on cask ales, cider and perries. Craft beers added February 2019. Since opening in August 2010 they have served over 5000 different cask ales. World and unusual UK craft ales also available from the fridge, locally sourced pork pies, cheese boards and pork scratchings are also sold. Traditional pub games are played with an annual cribbage tournament contested by regulars. Three beer festivals are held annually. Newark CAMRA Pub of the Year six times; local business of the year 2012; CAMRA Nottinghamshire Pub of the Year 2012, 2017 and 2018; CAMRA East Midlands Regional Pub of the Year 2012 and 2017.
