The antithesis of everything mass market with artwork, snack range and live music that are unusual to say the least. However it is the array of 45 beers, lagers and a real cider that set the pub apart, including a confusion inducing 20 hand-pulled ales. Ranging from table beers through IPA's to imperial stouts there is something for all, with featured breweries including Kirkstall, Mallinsons, Marble, Brass Castle, Oakham, Verdant and Thornbridge. One of the famous pair of real-ale "bookends" at the railway station. A favourite calling point on the Ale Trail. The outlet is a large, 4-roomed pub, with the rooms in 'quarters' around a central serving area. Each room has its own character and its own locals. The pub's beer range is outstanding, with 10 real-ales on sale at all times and beer quality has improved no end since all ales were concentrated in one room. This is complemented by up to 6 real ciders and an extensive British and world bottle range. Many beer festivals are held throughout the year. Now owned by Cameron's brewery.

With the interior refurbishment works largely complete, the King's Head now looks superb. A popular fixture in the town centre real ale scene, conveniently situated at the grade one listed railway station. It is a very friendly pub which serves ten beers. (four regular, six guest) all top quality and sold at competitive prices. There are always two dark ales, and real cider on handpull is also available. Live bands play on Sunday afternoons. It can get very busy at the weekends due to the real ale trail and football fans on match days.

The Rat and Ratchet has been part of Huddersfield’s real ale scene for many years, regularly winning awards from CAMRA and others. This friendly, recently refurbished pub offers 11 hand pulled ales: 3 Rat beers (from the award-winning on site Rat Brewery), 3 from Ossett Brewery, and 5 guest beers including dedicated mild and stout/porter pumps. This 1930s pub, with a 1950s refit by Hammonds (note the windows), has won a CAMRA English Heritage Conservation Pub Design award. The superb, curved, central bar has a parquet floor and an interesting wooden entrance. Eight ales are arranged in strength order. A dark beer is always available, along with two real ciders. Two rooms off are regularly used for meetings, such as poker, poetry and music clubs. Meet the Brewer nights on the last Tuesday of the month. CAMRA Yorkshire Pub of the Year runner up in 2016. Local CAMRA Pub of the Year & Cider Pub of the Year in 2016.
