Granary

10 Kilmarnock Road, Glasgow G41 3NH

The Granary was historically a hub for tram cars until 1962. The walls are still adorned with the metal rosettes that carried the electric cables that powered the trams. Nearby is Queen's Park, the oldest park on the south side of the city, and the imposing Langside Halls. The halls were originally built in 1847 in Queen Street as The National Bank of Scotland and later moved to their present site stone by stone. Real ale was discontinued following a refurbishment in April 2019.

Griffin Bar

Bath Street, Glasgow G2 4JP

A well known bar close to both the Kings Theatre and Charing Cross Rail Station. The Griffin is a 'B' listed building and retains much wood panelling and original features. Children are welcome until 8pm with meals, these might stop being served Mondays to Wednesdays if it is quiet.

Finsbay Flatiron

Formerly one of Glasgow's favourite corner bars serving real ale, briefly a venue operated by West Brewery, now a pizza restaurant and bar.

Hengler's Circus

351-363 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G2 3HU

A Wetherspoon pub named after the indoor circus that used to be on the other side of Sauchiehall Street nearer Charing Cross. It is an L shaped pub, with the bar down both sides of the L and a family area to the right of the entrance. The pub is handy for the King's Theatre and other attractions. It is popular with students and office workers and is usually busy at weekends.

Down a small side street near Central station. Identified by CAMRA as having a nationally important historic interior, this pub has the longest continuous bar in Scotland at 104 feet 3 inches. The horseshoe theme is continued from the shape of the bar to the bespoke mirrors and other artefacts. Note the mosaic floor, carved wooden wall panelling, painted tiles and illuminated stained glass ceiling area. Other interesting features include the large wooden casks on the gantry which once dispensed the pub's own brand of whisky and the recurring "JYW" motif of one of the previous owners. Two guests from all over Britain augment the regular ales. Good value food in the bar and upstairs lounge/diner.

The Crafty Pig is an American Style "Brewhouse" (although please note they do not brew their own beer) focusing on craft beers and BBQ food. There is an interested selection of bottled beers available.

Islay Inn

Large open plan bar with an island theme. Many of the malts are on offer and there are frequent Scottish folk nights.

Sir John Stirling Maxwell

Popular Wetherspoon at the far end of Shawlands Arcade in what used to be Safeways supermarket. It is named after the former owner of the nearby Pollok House and Park and furnished with bookcases and pictures and stories of local historical figures. There is a quieter area up three steps at the back which is very popular with families especially in school holidays. Real ales are normally available on at least six of the ten handpumps (after 11am). There is often a good selection of dark and light beers, with both traditional and newer breweries. Brewery trips and meet the brewer events are often organised by the pub.

In the heart of Glasgow, this genuine Glasgow pub which is always busy is worth a visit for the variety of ales and the availability of food. A short walk from the Concert Hall and other theatres this is a convenient spot for a pre performance drink. The pub re-opened in September 2018 after fire damage in a neighbouring building caused its closure. Handpumps have been installed but more building work is required before they can be used.
