Sir John Stirling Maxwell

Popular Wetherspoon at the far end of Shawlands Arcade in what used to be Safeways supermarket. It is named after the former owner of the nearby Pollok House and Park and furnished with bookcases and pictures and stories of local historical figures. There is a quieter area up three steps at the back which is very popular with families especially in school holidays. Real ales are normally available on at least six of the ten handpumps (after 11am). There is often a good selection of dark and light beers, with both traditional and newer breweries. Brewery trips and meet the brewer events are often organised by the pub.
