Stonebridge Inn

A traditional pub close to the site of the Battle of Neville's Cross, which was fought between the English and the Scots in 1346. The pub can provide facilities for private functions and offers food from locally sourced producers, plus ales from the Black Sheep brewery and a rotating guest brewery.

A busy city-centre pub in Durham's historic marketplace, offering a good selection of five local and national cask ales and one real cider. Despite refurbishments, the pub has managed to keep its traditional wooden alehouse appearance, and pictures of miners' banners take pride of place. Customers are given a warm welcome, and good food based on pub classics is served until 8.30pm.

One of Durham’s oldest inns, dating back to at least 1600, with a friendly atmosphere attracting a good mix of locals, students and visitors to the city. Recently refurbished and under new management. The interior comprises an L-shaped bar and a top room linked by stairs. The pub hosts a Wednesday quiz (arrive early), and a folk group on Monday and Tuesday. A former local CAMRA Town Pub of the Year.

This is a city-centre pub which offers good food and welcomes families up to 6pm. In the evenings it is a lively venue popular with thirtysomethings plus. Live music is held on Fridays and a band/disco on Saturdays. Real ale pumps reinstalled late 2017 after removal in August 2016. After a period if closure, reopened Refurbished under new management September 2021 with two real ales.
Angel Inn

Don't be put off by first impressions! This popular city-centre pub is frequented by quite an alternative crowd, but everyone is made welcome and the pub enjoys a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. There's a great beer garden at the back, a quiz on Thursdays, mid-week pool tournaments and live music on Saturdays and some Fridays. If you are keen on loud music, you will love this venue. Food is now available from the pub's own menu and is cooked and brought over from Ye Old Elm Tree across the road.

This large and lively city-centre pub (formerly Yates and William Hedley) opened under its present name in 2018 following a refurbishment. It reinstated its real ale in 2017 and now offers cask ales. Good value pub meals are served throughout the day and there is music on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Pleasant and roomy Italian restaurant in an old station building offering good value and good quality food. 2 handpumps offered ales from the Fat Brewer brewery in Crook until it stopped producing. As of June 2016 a replacement supplier was not in evidence.

Trevs Bar is the college bar for Trevelyan College, one of the constituent colleges of the University of Durham. In addition to their draught products, the bar stocks a wide range of bottled craft beers and ciders along with big whisky and gin ranges. During the academic year, the bar runs and is involved in a wide range of events - a weekly pub quiz on the Sunday, a beer festival in the summer, regular music nights and tastings are all part of the calendar. During the week daytimes, the bar is open only as a coffee bar, with fresh cake available daily. The opening times given refer to University term times, during vacations these will vary.

St. Cuthbert's Society is one of the colleges within Durham University and has two bars; one at the colleges Bailey Site known as Cuth's Bar and this at the college's Parsons Field site known as Brooks Bar. Brooks is also home to 'Craft Corner', a rotating range of bottled craft beers from all over the world at unbelievable prices, guests have included 'Meantime London Pale Ale' and 'Flying Dog Easy IPA'. Brooks also serves a small range of hot food including pizzas and chips, and runs a number of events such as the fortnightly pub quiz and acoustic nights.

Holy Grale

A former board-games cafe, this craft beer bar was opened in 2019 by the previous Landlord of Ye Old Elm Tree, just up the hill. A friendly open-plan venue with several keg taps and two handpulls, all serving an ever changing range of good beer, alongside large fridges showcasing a range of bottles and cans. A vaulted basement is used for occasional live music.
