Goose at the OVT

A popular pub with locals and students alike. It has an interesting exterior showing its frontage as the old Bournbrook Hotel and there is some nice tiles inside. The bar occupies a large area to the right as you enter and there is plenty of seating to the left. The Goose retains a sense of being a community pub and also a popular loud and bust student haunt. The OVT means 'Old Varsity Tavern'. Ale CLUB EVERY TUESDAY 2.25 a pint.

Typical Ember Inns pub, which is no bad thing as the beer range tend to be interesting. The pub is regularly populated with students and locals alike. The patio at the rear is well used in the warmer months. Food is typical Ember fayre and the pub has events such as quizes throughout the week.

CAMRA National Inventory pub rescued by Wetherspoon’s. 1929 Midland roadhouse has a mock Tudor frontage, smoking area and a bowling green to the rear. Welcome outlet for real ale in a poorly served area of the city. Unusually for a Wetherspoon’s this is a multi-room pub with a function room upstairs.

Great Stone

The Great Stone is in a quiet residential area of Northfield, right opposite the parish church. You could be convinced you were in a village! As it has been here for hundreds of years, it is a traditional pub with a fantastic beer garden. The pub is of an intimate size and there is good pub grub on offer. Quiz night every Tues 9pm.

In 2018 Greene King sold the Navi, but did not declare the new owner, so boarded up, it's ultimate fate was unknown. Then in Oct 2019 the Birmingham Mail reported that Wetherspoon had bought the premises. Conversion work was stallled by COVID-19, but has now commenced, as of July 2021. The new opening was planned for November 23rd, but is now shown as 'December'.
