The bar situated by the new Entrance/Exit on Platform 2 of Taunton Railway Station. For security reasons the bar is in two parts with entrances on both the platform and station forecourt, but no through access. Easy walking access from various bus routes. Station car park is pay and display.
The Station building first built in 1842 for the Bristol and Exeter Railway by IK Brunel. Rebuilt and enlarged in 1868 the south side booking hall, which DASHI now occupies, was the only one until a massive enlargement of the station opened on 21/12/1931, when a north side booking hall opened.
Both offices operated until March 1983 when the south side closed and for the first time the north side was the main entrance as it is today. In the years since its closure it became a Red Star parcel office and a painters store.
Remarkably the original tiled floor and walls remained with little damage. The curve of the tiled part of the floor is where the original booking hall wooden ticket hatches would have been. Also note on the platform side the ticket collectors office. Enjoy your stay in this remarkable survival of times gone by.
Meal times shown is for serving hot bar snacks. Good quality sandwiches, snacks and drinks available at all other times.
A range of bottled beers from various Somerset Breweries and cider producers are available.
