Food is locally sourced and the menu is extensive, but you don’t have to eat. There is a strong coffee trade through the day and drinks trade from early evening with the after-works drinkers followed by a later surge of those on a night out. Cool, sophisticated and welcoming.

Coal Orchard

North Town Wharf once stood behind this Wetherspoon house, next to the River Tone. Facing it was the Coal Orchard, the site of an orchard which became the landing place for Welsh coal. Latterly the pub was converted from a former hardware store. One of JDW’s smaller premises, the frontage has Art Deco styling and seating is arranged over a single open-plan level. There is a small garden and patio area at the rear.

The Flying Horse is popular family pub just 200 yards from the town centre and just up the road from Taunton Football Club. Inside is open plan but well segregated with the sports area on one side which leads to a snug then on to the family and dining area.
