A large, family-friendly, food-oriented pub. It is part of the Sizzling Pub Company with good value pub food is available all day. The real ales are also very reasonably priced. There are two large screen TVs showing sport and a pool table.

Black Swan

A 17th century, timber-framed house, turned into a pub in the 18th century and altered since but still wood panelled with many original beams and sloping floors. There are three separate rooms downstairs with an upstairs function room where the Black Swan Folk Club meets and live jazz is featured on alternate Wednesday evenings. A pleasant, decked, outside drinking area is to the rear.

Blacksmiths Arms

This pleasant village local has been changed slightly to meet the needs of today’s customers, with a dedicated dining room. Feature walls with inbuilt electric stove add to the homely feel of this pub. The beer range is one of the best in the area. Well-supported by the village and passing trade which seeks it out.

Blue Bell

This very small Edwardian pub full of character has nationally important Grade II* historic interior (1903), with central bar supplying two small rooms and side corridor. Can get full so entry may be restricted at busy times. Has enforced house rules and a strict no-groups policy. Permanent beers are complemented by great range of rotating guests through seven handpulls. Bar snacks and pork pies available. A charismatic landlord and friendly staff along with welcoming atmosphere led to Winter 2016 Pub of the Season.

Re-open as a bar on 16th April 2014, after being closed for several years, following a complete refurbishment. The Micklegate at 127 for; Craft Beer, Real Ale and Live Sports. Up to 10 real ales from national and local breweries. Usually two beers from the nearby York brewery.

Bootham Tavern

A horseshoe-shaped bar in modern Victorian style. TVs throughout showing football or, on Fridays and Saturdays, Rugby League. Monday is quiz night and Thursday is poker night. A pub with a loyal local following.

Located just outside the city walls, this pub has an interesting, large, open plan lounge bar with seating area and small side room with pool table and darts. Named after a famous race horse – see boards and photos on the walls. Formerly a Boys’ Home, converted in 1985
