Main-road town pub situated close to the Grand Union Canal. It has two bars and a further seating area to the rear with real fires. Was named Simple Simon from 1970 to early 2009 - a now demolished pie factory near by may explain that name. Food is now being served including full breakfast menu
Four Penny Pub

The pub is in a Georgian building dating from around 1800 and lies a short distance from the town centre, close to the racecourse and castle. Its name derives from the price of a cup of coffee and tot of rum that was charged to workers building the nearby Grand Union Canal in the early 1800s. The single, split-level room has a contemporary feel and a relaxed atmosphere, enhanced by the absence of machines or loud music.

On the Grand Union Canal this historic alehouse, built in 1798, welcomes canal users and locals alike. The original building on the waterside is now the front bar, with a modern extension to the rear. Internal decorations feature canal memorabilia, including interesting maps. Three permanent real ales are offered along with three locally sourced guest beers. The friendly staff are knowledgeable, and proud to serve local ales and food. There is outside seating alongside the water next to a double lock that can get busy.

Building dates back to around 1600, at one time it was the parish Poorhouse, it became a pub in 1880. Plenty of old features such as exposed beams and settles and benches. Families and well behaved dogs welcome. The pub changed hands around March 2019 and is now part of the Pug family of pubs. Quiz Night every Tuesday.
