Formerly the Simonside Arms, the Florence Bar & Bistro is a food orientated venue with an extensive menu serving lunch and evening meals . On entering, the bar is to the left and the bistro to the right. The bar , has comfortable seating and a relaxing atmosphere. There is live music every Wednesday, Friday & Saturday. Large car park at front and 5 minutes walk from Simonside Metro no real ale reported 20/9/18.

Located in Harton Nook South Shields , this small single room cosy pub, has one handpull dispensing Rivet Catcher as their permanent real ale. For such a small bar, they still manage to have a Saturday night music night. There is limited parking outside although there is more opposite and round the corner outside some shops. There are regular buses to South Shields and Sunderland stopping outside.

South Shields first micropub, a former housing rent office, is located opposite the Town Hall and has recently extended into the former vinyl album store/coffee shop. Its floor space has almost doubled in size. There is a new beer garden at the rear with four large heaters. The Cask Lounge is run by an experienced and very friendly couple who value the principle of the micropub encouraging conversation with no TVs or gambling machines. There are five handpulls dispensing ever changing real ales. Four real ciders are also available. The pub is light and airy which includes a comfortable sofa, soft carpeting and background music to complete the experience. Most of the towns bus services stop nearby and South Shields Metro is about 3 minutes walk.
Criterion

Known locally as the Cri, The Criterion is an historic pub dating from the 1800's and which closed in 2012 and turned into a bookmakers. The first floor of the building has been completely refurbished to reflect how it looked in the past and turned into a medium size bar. There are two changing handpulls . The pub has started brewing their own beer There is an impressive back bar with large mirrors, two real fires and comfortable seating with some sofas. Note the clock above the exit door from the bar. Outside you can still see the old Teltey's pub signs. No food other than cheeseboards Access is via the entrance on Ocean Road and up a staircase. No disabled access. Pub is very close to the public transport interchange.

As of November 2019, no real ale available Bar 52 is a sports bar located inside the Sea Hotel, Pier Head, opposite "The Shows" It can be found just past the hotel reception on the right and has two levels facing onto Harbour Drive. Bar meals are available. There is a pool table & dart board.

Originally serving cask and keg, now only sells keg beers .Food is available (eg charcuterie and cheeses). Wednesday is pie and ale night. There is a Talking Heads quote above the bar entrance. Booking a table is highly recommended at this time. Buses stop to South Shields and Sunderland nearby.

South Shields first brewery in some time continues the national trend of breweries on industrial estates. A bare bones but fully functional bar and seating area inside, with more seating available outside. Seven real ales, five keg lines, and a large collection of cans and bottles. Idiosyncratic artwork decorates the walls, and there is a daubed piece of advice: ‘Don’t Lick Anything!”. NOTE MONDAY - THURSDAY ONLY OPEN FOR TAKEAWAYS.

Large imposing red brick street corner local. This popular pub, owned by Camerons, sells Strongarm real ale. Note the 1901 sign above the entrance. Inside there is a large neon sign saying love and a rusty suit of armour.
