This establishment was first licensed in 1731 and was an old coaching inn. In recent years the premises have undergone major refurbishment. The pub serves keg beers, continental beers, wines, spirits and cocktails but no real ale. Drinks are expensive. There is a restaurant with a good reputation and a large outside seating area in the courtyard. Dante's Italian restaurant is across the courtyard.

The one room pub has a pool table and dart board away from the bar and the outside space has been utilised to a maximum with seating that attracts large numbers in fine weather. Up to seven real ales available along with keg beers, bottled beers, lagers, gins, wines and spirits. There is a monthly quiz night and live music at the weekends. CAMRA members get a 10p discount and there is a 50p discount between 4 and 6 pm( Monday to Friday ) available to all drinkers, this applies to all cask beers.
