Fleece

The Fleece is a community focused pub in the outskirts of Pudsey which a regular CAMRA award-winner and these are proudly displayed in the entranceway. To the left of the front door is a small basic tap room with a flagged floor, known as "The Snug". To the right is the relatively large lounge with plenty of comfy settles around the perimeter. Look around and see how many film stars can you name or Laurels and Hardys you can spot!

Although the large stone building is imposing, the interior is comfortable and welcoming. The pub retains many original features and appears in Yorkshire's Real Heritage Pubs book. Four rooms, all with high ceilings, are accessed from the terrazzo floored central corridor. The end of the bar serves the corridor while the main part is in the main room, on the right. Here, fixed wooden seating with padding extends around the exterior walls. In the carpeted room to the front left the seating style is repeated and a fire place and bell pushes are retained. There is another room to the rear left. Beyond the stairs in the corridor is access to a room that contains a pool table and adjoins the main room though there is no direct access. Dogs are made to feel welcome.

Traditional and cosy three-roomed local that retains a number of old features. The two front rooms are intact except being minus doors. The rear room has been opened out and is incorporated into the bar area. All the rooms have fireplaces and the walls are decorated with a number of old pub signs.

Smaller and more intimate than most Wetherspoon pubs, the building dates from c.1955 replacing the earlier Black Bull that was built in 1770. The name derives from a tool used in the weaving industry, which was prominent in the area and featured in the Borough of Pudsey’s coat of arms. The four guests are comprised of a mixture of local, regional and national beers. There is a paved drinking area at the front.
