Retreat
7 High Street, Ledbury HR8 1DS
Once the Bulls Head, this is now a stylish single-bar pub with an ornate timber facade. There is also a stage area, used on Tuesdays for an open mic session, and Thursdays for a band.
Brewery Inn
Bye Street, Ledbury HR8 2AG
On the right-hand side of what once was the entrance to Ledbury Town station stands the Brewery Inn, a fascinating and unspoilt 15th century two-bar town pub with traditional quarry-tiled floors. This well-supported local has a snug bar which is probably the smallest in the county. Traditional bar snacks available weekend lunchtimes. Limited free parking nearby. Guest beer from Marstons range.
Royal Oak Hotel
The Southend, Ledbury HR8 2EY
A fine old coaching inn, built in 1643 and renovated in 1890, with a new facade covering the original timber-frame. However, inside the timber is much in evidence, including exposed wattle panels. Note the stained glass window. The hotel has recently been refurbished with new toilets and lighter decor. There is a split-level main bar with dining areas to the side. Home-prepared meals are served all day. There was a brewery on the site until 1921, which was restarted in 1996 but sadly closed again in 2000.
Talbot Hotel
14 New Street, Ledbury HR8 2DX
An outstanding black and white half-timbered hotel and bar dating back to the 1590s - with direct links to the Civil War. Various comfortably-furnished seating areas, with discreet nooks and corners, surround a central bar-servery facing a splendid fireplace. The restaurant, with its superb wood-panelling, offers affordable fine cuisine using locally-sourced ingredients, while conventional bar snacks are also available in the bar. Guest beers include those from Wadworths seasonal range or Red Shoot subsidiary.
Royal Hall
5A The Southend, Ledbury HR8 2EY
This new pub consists of the old Masonic Hall situated at first floor level, with an entrance to the side of the Royal Oak Hotel. It started life as a cinema and after that became a concert hall. The large, vaulted, high-ceilinged space is furnished with a mix of tables and chairs plus settees with a pool table in the centre and two dart boards along one wall. The canopy of the Lodge Master's chair remains behind the bar where two large screens show Sky sports. On Thursday evenings you can get curry, rice and a pint for £6. The whole space can be hired for private functions.
