Traditional pub, tucked away on Galleywood Common overlooking the old racecourse, ideal for walkers, with two bars with home cooked meals. One quiet bar and one with TV. Many photos of Old Chelmsford on walls, in particular of the old racecourse; also, a 1908 map of Essex. Various car and biker clubs meet at the pub, often with outside BBQs available. Grade II-listed building recently refurbished with the cellar and kitchen also updated. The L-shaped bar has a mainly wooden floor with seating at the bar and at tables and in alcoves. There is a separate pool room. Freshly prepared home-cooked food is served with a seniors' lunch club on Thursday. Children eat free for the Sunday roast.
