Sandy Bell's is the premier place for free live folk music in Edinburgh every evening and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Bring along an instrument and join in! An arch, the gantry, bar counter and wall panelling are in dark wood, in marked contrast to the atmosphere which is far from gloomy. The lunchtime pies are excellent and, in addition to five real ales, there is an impressive range of malt whiskies and gins. Nice 'Forrest Hlll Bar' ghost signs. Children are not admitted.

Auld Hundred

Converted from a Mission Hall around 1800, this traditional bar has exposed stone walls and a range of seating including comfortable settees. A spiral wrought iron staircase leads up to the restaurant which offers home cooked pub food with a Scottish theme. Tuesday is quiz night.

This pub was created from two previous pubs, one being the eponymous Milne’s, famous as the “Poets Pub”. Though popular, it has a number of rooms and alcoves on two levels with plenty of seating, including a 'Kremlin Bar', with extensive use of dark wood throughout. Photos of old Edinburgh adorn the walls. Good selection of guest beers from mainly Scottish breweries. Children over 5 allowed for meals downstairs, with special menu provided.
