Attractive two roomed pub on the northern outskirts of Carlisle on the A7 near M6 J44. The friendly bar is cosy and decorated with football scarves. The lounge is a very pleasant, attractive L shaped room often candlelit in the evening. Bar meals are very good and excellent value. The pub has its own car park to the rear and makes an excellent alternative to motorway food for anyone passing on the M6. Sunday roast and veg option only on Sunday's. Guest ale is from Caledonian and Theakstons beer changes each week.

A refurbishment in late 2017 has opened up the whole of the pub into one large area moving the bar to one side. However it still retains the feel of the original rooms as it has kept original support pillars and put in other separating features.

The Jovial Sailor dates from 1884 and retains many of its Victorian features. It contains a small bar area with a larger 'lounge' as well as a large outside area. It is situated close to the Cumberland Infirmary within easy walking distance of the City Centre. It reopened in 2014 and has revived its darts and pool teams. A pigeon club has also started meeting there.

Former state management pub which when built in 1853 served the thriving surrounding textile industry. Hand looms, spinning wheels, bobbins and shuttles from Linton Tweeds which would have been used in the nearby mills, along with archive photos of the industry are to be found throughout the pub. This is now the only remaining pub in the Denton Holme area. Cosy and friendly single room pub around a central bar. 12 minutes walk from Carlisle train station and on local bus routes.
