Handsome, partly 18th century hotel next to the Town Bridge over the Great Ouse, an important hotel and conference centre. The magnificent staircase is one of the few surviving artefacts from the ruined Houghton House near Ampthill. There is an award winning restaurant and an outdoor terrace overlooking the river. Real ale is available in the new Pen & Cob River looking out acroiss the river. An annual Beer and Food Festival is usually held in November.

Comfortable inn dating from the 1770s, now a Greene King with Kelchner Brewery as tenants. Occasional music as advertised and other breweries' beers regularly available through swaps. Under a previous tenancy it was a branch POTY and has the potential to achieve that again. Not on the main drag in the town but easily walkable from there. Saxby's cider on hand pump.

A traditional, street-corner pub and a key part of the Bedford real ale scene for 20 years. There is always an interesting selection of 12 ales and two real ciders on handpumps. Draught continental beers and a range of bottled Belgian beers are also available. There is a small courtyard for drinkers and smokers and a suntrap in summer. A friendly pub with a mixed clientele, it can get very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings. Local CAMRA special real ale award 2017.

Three seating areas, each with its own style, are served from a single bar. The quizzes on Sunday (smartphone) and Tuesday are popular, as is the Monday evening jazz.
