Was rumoured to be getting a re-furbishment but no further news. Small, fishing-oriented hotel on the banks of the River Don. The public bar with its open fire, has the feel of a dark, wood-lined cave with one end dominated by a projection TV screen used for sporting events. The lounge bar has a warming wood burning stove and there is a separate restaurant and conservatory dining area with stunning bridge and river views. The riverside garden is popular in summer. Beer available in both lounge and public bar. Meals on Mon & Tue in Summer only. The Grampian Transport Museum with its own miniature railway is nearby and the Castle Trail and a dry ski slope are also close.

Thomas Paine, a man considered to have devised the name “United States of America” at the time of independence and a published author and political activist, held the post of Excise Officer for Alford between 1764 - 1767. His office is in the Hotel.
