Ship & Castle

This real ale flagship offers eclectically-sourced and rapidly-changing microbrewery guests, real cider and perry from Gwynt y Ddraig, one or two craft keg beers, a few interesting bottles (eg Wild Beer, Pollys) and even some excellent canned beer. Taste the range with a "five pump platter" of five third-pint measures. Well-considered décor reflects the pub's name and history. Midweek beer festivals spring and autumn offer extended choice. A popular venue to watch Six Nations rugby - Wales enthusiastically and knowledgeably supported but all made most welcome.

This historic pub was originally called "The Terminus" and was situated close to the railway when it first arrived in Aberystwyth in 1863. It can still be found opposite Aberystwyth's more modern station and was renamed 'Vale of Rheidol" in the 1960's, which refers to the local steam train service. The pub itself has changed little since and still comprises of a single long room with a bar running almost the half the length. It has been recently refurbished in 2019 from top to bottom with all facilities brought up to-date, and care has been taken to preserve the pub's history and cosy interior. White Horse
Upper Portland Street, Aberystwyth SY23 2DT
Reverted February 2015 to its original name. A Wetherspoons look-a-like with decor little altered from its Varsity days, though there looks to be more seating upstairs. Some good external tilework, but sadly the fine etched window was smashed some years ago by a vandal and replaced by an inferior embossed copy - a well-meaning gesture on the part of the then owners, but a poor exchange nonetheless. Good value food with a wide range of choices and themes throughout the week.

This pub located a few hundreds metres from the middle of Aberystwyth is popular with students and locals alike. Live bands perform twice a week and there is a quiz night every Sunday.
