A family-run canalside free house, the pub is popular for its Theakston beers plus guests, all at keen prices. It features on the Transpennine Rail Ale Trail and hosts occasional fundraising events plus weekend live entertainment and has active sports teams. Winter comfort is aided by a large wood-burning fire. Outside is an excellent, extensive, sheltered canalside beer garden with an open fire for cool days. Gourmet hotdogs are available plus sandwiches and pastries in the morning.
