The Old Ship is reputed to be the oldest public house in South Shields, established around 1803. It was originally a coaching inn on the road between Westoe and Sunderland - an old mounting stone once used by horsemen to make it easier to get into the saddle remains outside the front entrance. This friendly establishment has a combined bar/lounge area and a function room upstairs. There are two handpumps, Wainwright's and Hobgoblin at time of last visit ( Oct 19).
