Dating from 1897, this traditional town-centre pub has two bars one above the other. The small downstairs room is dominated by an attractive alcove back bar. Listed on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors, it has retained many original design features including colourful entrance tilework and a wide acid-etched bay window at the front. Although there are three handpulls, there is only one in use always serving Draught Bass, with the occasional cask Stones. Upstairs is an extra room complete with its own ornate counter , back bar and fireplace. This is available to hire for private functions.
The bus and metro interchange is about three minutes walk .
