Near both main rail stations and major bus routes, this classic city centre split-level bar is one of Scotland's leading whisky pubs with a collection of around 750 malts – happily they take pride in their beer too. Very popular and often extremely busy. Four handpumps offer Scottish beers, some not often seen in Glasgow. Listening to the staff describe the virtues of various drams to appreciative visitors is an education, and landlord Frank’s beard is a tourist attraction in its own right. Should you ever tire of real ale and whisky, there is also a fridge of rare Franconian lagers. Food of the “pie and beans” school is available during the day – it’s finding a free table to eat it at that may be an issue. A mezzanine level provides a degree of seclusion for whisky tastings.
