Building is 250 years old. Was the "Cock Inn", Then the "Royal Oak". Refurbished in late 20th C. and became the "Bees Knees". Went downhill, closed. Re-opened as "debees", or "DB's", as a live Music/Jazz/Comedy club. Has hosted Alan Carr, Arthur Smith, Jason Manford, Archie Kelly, Seymour Mace, John Bishop, among others. The Hive Live Ltd (known as ‘The Hive’) has been running fundraising nights at de bees having been given a temporary agreement with the owners EI Group to operate the venue whilst getting the funds together to buy the building into community ownership.

Bespoke cafe-bar selling a range of real ales, wines, spirits etc. Open plan ground floor bar plus large split room upstairs, access via fairly steep stairway. Smaller amount of seating on pavement outside for drinking in more clement weather. Four changing real ales from far and wide. Excellent lager range on tap-none of the usual suspects. Small fridge unit stocked with an eclectic range of bottled and canned beers. Popular with locals and visitors alike. Was originally a chemist shop. Opened late 2011.

An attractive thatched inn and hotel within Exmoor National Park. The village is noted for having been the birthplace of Ernest Bevin. The inn also houses the oak stores and post office. The Winn Brook runs past the inn and over the ford that leads up to Exmoor and Tarr Steps. The inn has won a number of awards for its food and details of where food is sourced locally can be found on the website. Summer hours are extended on Sat/Sun. Note this estabishment is open to both residents and non-residents as a restuarant but not as a walk in Inn for drinks only!
