Walshaw Sports Club

There has been a Walshaw Football Team of one kind or another since the 1890’s. In 1965 the village Cricket team and the football team merged and. Walshaw Sports Club was formed. They secured a long lease on the present Sycamore Road ground and the members worked tirelessly to construct the new Clubhouse facilities and create a first- class Cricket & Football venue. The Club has gone from strength to strength and there are now four Senior Football teams and a lady`s, team as well as 14 junior teams with three Senior Cricket teams and six junior teams. Many social events are held throughout the year with a regular feature being the Song Writers Circle on Wednesday night (fortnightly) with different guest artists every time. All in all a great asset to the local community and is very well supported. Reopened 4/7/2020

Carmelo’s Restaurant is a family run business, established in 1992. Traditional Italian cuisine served from the owners hometown in southern Italy. They introduced a newly refurbished bar area in Autumn 2018 – Bilardi’s Bar – selling a wide variety of cocktails, wines, spirits and beers. 2 real ales are available via handpunp. It is a family friendly and dog friendly (during the day) bar, where you can eat small Italian dishes (Cicchetti) and soak up the friendly atmosphere with also regular live music at weekends and “Happy Hours”. A traditional, family friendly, Thwaites pub where dogs are welcome (up to 7.30pm). The building has a quiet front lounge with real open fire in cold winter periods and a separate pool room off the main bar sitting area. There is a beer garden at a lower level, to the rear. Six hand pumps serve regular and guest ales. On Mondays all real ales are discounted to £2.90/pint. Every Saturday there is live music.
