The Conqueror Alehouse, situated in Grange Road, Ramsgate, is probably the smallest Free House in Thanet and offers a fine selection of mainly local, traditionally produced ales and ciders. Mine host Colin Aris is a member of CAMRA - the Campaign for Real Ale and is one of the team behind the highly successful Planet Thanet Ale Festival, which is held annually at Margate's Winter Gardens. Named after a handsome two-funneled paddle steamer which operated excursions from Ramsgate to France around the beginning of the twentieth century, the Conqueror offers a quiet, music and TV free atmosphere in which to enjoy a pint or two of real ale. Old photos of the ship and its crew adorn the walls and beer and cider is served straight from the barrel.

The pub then became a Whitbread house when the Tomson and Wotton brewery was subsequently taken over and closed in 1968.
