The KC is a comfortable pub that is over 100 years old, and was a former Branch pub of the year. For the current owners the condition of the eight real ales on offer is very important, and it can be purchased in thirds for sampling. There are comprehensive Gin and Wine menus, and Ciders, Lagers and Guinness are available. Locally sourced fresh home made food is served Tuesday - Saturday, with Sunday lunch being a speciality. There are three seating areas around the central serving bar, and the cellar is directly below. The front rooms have open fires and a mixture of sofas, chairs and bar stools. Fresh flowers are a feature as well as daily papers, and there is an old large map of Newbury displayed on the ceiling. The train station is just 3 mins walk around the corner, and the town centre 3 mins in the other direction.

Traditional pub with several different seating areas inside. Near Newbury Racecourse. The pub has an attractive sheltered garden with shrubs and fruit trees. It is worth looking at the photos of the pub, found mainly on the walls of the original pub building, showing how it has changed since the 1960’s. Copies of the various original documents that can help chart the early life of the pub are also on display. From the historic photos, it can be seen that the pub has been owned by Simonds, Courage and Eldridge Pope prior to Marston’s ownership. There are special food offers on different days of the week: Monday - grill night; Wednesday - curry night; Friday - Fish & Chips; Sunday - roast lunch. There is also a meat raffle and quiz night on Sundays. Recently refurbished (March 2017).
