Previously known as the Ermine, this establishment has had a few ups, downs and false starts over the years. Social club style bar with at least a few drinkable bottled beers, not overly priced. Erotic pictures in the gents.

Suburbs
Charles Street, Hoole CH2 3AZ
Low-lit bar attracting the in-scene but friendly and pleasant nonetheless. Can get full. No real ale but a couple of foreign pilsners are worth a schooner at a premium price.
Oaklands Hotel
93 Hoole Rd, Hoole, Chester, Hoole CH2 3NB
Large open-plan pub/hotel adjacent to the main road between Chester and the M56. Operating under the Hungry Horse banner it is popular with local families and visitors staying in the nearby guest houses. Beers are from the Greene King range.
Bromfield Arms
43 Faulkner Street, Hoole CH2 3BD
Refurbished in May 2015 as part of the 'Golden Oak' branding, this large suburban pub now has a bright modern interior whilst retaining the striking black and white exterior. The main bar is a large room including other seating areas leading off it, whilst the rear bar is more basic - both have sports TV. Four hand pumps serve varied beers from national, regional and local breweries. Special offer on food, depending on the day of the week.
Faulkner
Faulkner Street, Hoole CH2 3BE
This red brick corner pub in Chester's most bohemian suburb has been transformed from a traditional local to a more food oriented but very popular bistro bar. The continental ambiance is further enhanced in warmer weather when the large French windows are fully opened. There are usually five cask ales on offer which tend to be national brands especially Caledonian or from larger regional brewers.

NOTE: This description was written in 1998 and may be out of date. Superior hotel on the edge of town. Bar snacks and restaurant. Real ale is found in Rigby's Bar, open to non-residents.
