This traditional old stone pub, formerly the Drum and Monkey, is tucked away on a side road opposite the old Matthews brewery which closed in the 1960's. It has been extended and refurbished to capitalise on the large car park, beautiful garden and patio areas and now caters for up to 60 diners while still retaining a well used public bar. The restaurant trades as Ristorante Da Massimo.

Originally a 15th century as a coaching inn with its own brewery and stable, following a fire in the 17th century it was rebuilt and re-named as The Phoenix. It has an open plan layout with dining area to one side and an open fire. Good-value pub grub plus specials served lunchtimes Monday to Friday, breakfast menu and traditional Sunday lunch. There are picnic tables outside on what was the car park but there are two public car parks nearby plus on street parking.

Grade 2 listed building, which dates back to 1698, it was considerably rebuilt in the mid 18th century. Light lunches served except Sunday. Large courtyard accessed through bar. The public bar has sports TV and can be noisy as the night goes on. Live music Saturday nights.

Very pleasant, cosy feel to the place. Pool table, fruit machines 2 regular ales plus a change, sourced from national breweries. Live music on Saturday night, Quiz night on Sunday, Poker on Thursday night. Very attractive pub, friendly management and bar staff.
