Eight Bells

The Eight Bells was originally built in the 14th century to house the stonemasons that built St James' church and was later used to store the peal of eight bells that were hung in the church tower. The Inn was rebuilt using most of the original stone and timbers during the 17th century. What exists today is an outstanding example of a traditional Cotswolds Inn with cobbled courtyard. This 300 year old stone-built inn . A pub since 1709; its present name dates from the 1840s. Although the interior is much changed, the front bar still retains its huge stone fireplace. The restaurant is called the Maharaja and specialises in Indian Food. Guest beers include seasonal ales from local breweries such as North Cotswold. Behind the pub a courtyard leads to a pretty garden by a stream. The Cotswold Way starts nearby and therefore the inn is popular with walkers.
