Butchers Arms

A cosy pub acknowledged for the quality and quantity of its beers, selling at least five cask ales from the Marston's range. The pub is also noted for its food, with home-cooking a speciality; Sunday lunches are popular and good value. Teas and coffees are also served. Dogs are welcome and it is convenient for the railway station and all buses through the town. Quiz night is Tuesday.

Sandwiches and pies are available from the bar on most days. Functions for up to 100 people (including wheelchair users) can be accommodated in the well-appointed function room on the first floor. Local CAMRA Club of the Year or runner-up on many occasions - winner in 2015.

Entry free for CAMRA members, OAPs and on Sundays, otherwise admission fee (packages available) applies on Saturdays and Bank Holidays Mondays when the stadium is open 11.30am till 4pm. On a Bank Holiday weekend when there is a Monday meeting it is not open on the Sunday.

Modern pub reopened September 2020 after major refurbishment complete with roof terrace. At the same time it was rebranded as a conventional Wetherspoons without music. The name acknowledges the strong connection the town has with cricket with the town club close by and the county club ground on the Riverside, as do various items of memorabilia on the walls. Very roomy and has a single long bar championing local beers. No alcohol served before 9am.

Accommodation is in 14 boutique B and B rooms. There is a patio drinking area to the rear, a weekly quiz on Tuesdays, buskers night on Wednesdays and live music on Fridays.
