1. Market Street, Barnstaple EX31 1BX

Close to Barnstaple's historic Pannier Market, this film-themed café and restaurant opened in early 2018, added a licensed bar one year later, and then a micro-brewery on the premises in early 2019. Live Long & Prosper (a 4.0% IPA) and Memphis Belle (a 4.2% EPA) are regulars, with others beers from the range also featuring regularly. Escape Down the Rabbit Hole also harnesses story telling with two purpose-built "escape rooms", where teams can participate in a series of puzzles and challenges to complete a quest. Good pub food can be enjoyed in the spacious bar area, the adjacent restaurant or, in fine weather, the attractive Courtyard area outside.

Cedars Inn

Bickington Road, Barnstaple EX31 2HE

Part of the Old English Inns estate, The Cedars was extensively refurbished in 2010. This country house, set in landscaped grounds, has accommodation comprising 32 self contained lodges centred on a courtyard and is a popular venue for weddings, private parties and meetings. Barnstaple town centre is a twenty minute walk or 5 minute drive away. The regular Greene King IPA and Abbot Ale are usually joined by a local guest beer.

Large club with two bars, snooker tables and function room. Food served lunchtimes only Tues - Sat. Winner of North Devon CAMRA branch Club of the Year award in 2016.

Cork & Bottle

The last pub on the town's High Street comprises one large room with a single freestanding bar in the middle. The cobbles at the entrance suggest it had a past as a coaching inn.

Probably one of the last places you would expect to find quality real ale in Barnstaple, but maybe one of the first places you should look. Mediterranean style tapas bar on the Square with seating outside. Two handpumps featuring beers from St Austell and real ale in bottles from Bays.

Large open-plan pub with a single bar, separate function/pool room and beer garden to the rear. Away from the town centre, in the Newport area of Barnstaple, this friendly local, with its long-serving landlord, has something of the feel of a village pub. Timothy Taylor Landlord and Sharp's Doom Bar are regularly to be found here.

Heanton Court

Heanton, Braunton, Barnstaple EX31 4AX

Reverted now to its former name, The Heanton Court has recently be refurbished to a high standard. Originally an ancient manor house for distinguished families descended from Edward IV, it was more than twice its present size until the 19th Century when the southern part was removed to make way for the now defunct railway line. The old stone building began to be let out to farmers around this time, with its castellated towers making it one of the grandest farmhouses in North Devon. Today this country pub and restaurant serves hearty seasonal pub food along with three real ales and a good selection of fine wines. The pub garden is particularly attractive, with sun all day and beautiful views over the Taw estuary.

This recently refurbished and spacious mock-Tudor inn on the old Barnstaple to Bideford road now comprises a large L shaped bar with an adjoining restaurant area where good value food is served. There is accomodation upstairs of five en-suite rooms, while other facilities are available on the ground floor. Two real ales are kept, together with occasional guest beers. Breakfasts are served from 8 am. Monday to Saturday.
