This interesting old low-beamed pub is just off Market Place on the town's one-way system. It claims a history as far back as 1214 and is a warren of nooks and crannies, all decorated in mock half-timbered style to give a rustic feel, with an impressive fireplace and stove in the main bar. Substantially refurbished a few years ago, it fortunately lost none of its character. It offers up to five regularly changing ales from Yorkshire brewers.
