Nestling in a corner of the market square the inn has been serving ale since it was first built in 1278. A grade II listed gem, it is immaculately kept and comfortably furnished and is popular with locals and tourists alike; it also has a resident ghost. Three drinking areas include a small cosy snug and a larger bar with open fires and good value beers. The ancient Roman site of Aldborough (Isurium) is nearby.
