In the picturesque village of Wentbridge, on the old Great North Road, this former coaching inn was rebuilt in 1633 (and then again, stone by stone). An original sign hangs in the entrance. It stands at the head of Brockadale, the smallest of the Yorkshire Dales. It is noted for its excellent range of food which includes several vegetarian options.( Booking is advisable at weekends.) It is comfortably furnished with Mousey Thompson chairs and tables. A former manager was Punch Taverns Regional & National Cellarman of the Year in 1998
