Although in a largely industrial area of town, this stone building still has a farmhouse feel, with stone floors on different levels - disabled access resolved through new extension. The Red Lion is alleged to be haunted by the ghost of a highwayman or traveller who hanged himself in one of the bedrooms. In 1877, the inn whch included a butcher's shop was sold for £1,000! The pub is cosy with plenty of nooks in which to settle. The Lonely Pub Company (now Inns2bInn or Pubs2BInn) allows its tenants scope to to make their pubs prosper, hence the choice of four cask ales from independent breweries. Generous portions of real food are served in a new extension for dining, normally keeping the bar for drinkers, but on Sundays the emphasis is on food. (revised description for GBG 2005) Bob's Brewing Company started out in outbuildings here under its former name Red Lion Ales. Wakefield meetings of Yorklshire Trikers take place here.
