Traditional community local close to Hawke House, home of the 18th-century seafarer who gave the pub its name. When built in 1862 it was called the Railway, but the line ended up running some way to the north. Food not regularly available, but pie nights and other one offs occasionally. There is a rear garden, and additional seating out front. This is the closest pub to London Irish rugby club's Hazelwood training ground, and only five minutes' walk from the Thames towpath.
