Halfway between railway station and town centre, this basic down-to-earth single-bar drinkers' local shows a renewed commitment to real ale (ignore the large Carling sign outside!).Quirky exterior with some original stained glass leads to the welcoming bar where the beers turn over quickly (another Wye Valley beer may replace Butty Bach on occasion). Enter as a stranger, leave as a friend. The town of Machynlleth, surprisingly bustling given its small size, is a splendid touring centre with good transport links.
