St. James Tavern

Opening hours

A small triangular end-of-terrace pub on the steep Romsey Road hill, just uphill from the railway bridge. The pub is in a good residential part of Winchester, and popular with staff from the nearby hospital, police headquarters and prison. Inside is single split-level L-shaped bar, with lots of wood and dark green walls, which add to the restful feeling of the place. Outside at the rear is a smart sheltered patio. The food menu is good with interesting specials and themes (see website). There is a quiz on Tuesdays and live acoustic music on the first and last Sunday in the month. Operated by the Little Pub Group, which has three pubs in Winchester, one in Sparsholt, and one in Frogham (NW New Forest).
