Parts of the Phoenix Inn date from the 17th century having been built as an inn on the Winchester to Portsmouth turnpike. The bar is split level with a welcoming log fire during the winter months, there is a skittle alley / function room to the rear which is also used for dining during busy periods.
The Phoenix has been run by the same family for a number of years with the current landlord taking over from his father, although there was a break for a few years when Marston’s converted the pub to management and the family moved temporarily to another pub in the village. The pub is part of the Greene King ‘Local Hero’ scheme with four pumps selling Greene King beer and the other four selling beer from local / regional breweries.
Home cooked food is served, with fish and chip Thursdays proving popular; there are occasional themed evenings often with entertainment for which booking is required and an occasional quiz night; check the website for dates.
The pub operates a loyalty card scheme with every eleventh pint free. The house beer Phoenix Inn Ale is Hardy and Hanson Bitter.
