Upmarket, food-oriented, 16th century coaching inn. Drinkers will feel most comfortable in the low-level area to the left of the bar as this has a good pubby feel to it. Food can be taken in the galleried restaurant, the large conservatory, the bar itself (which features a roaring log fire in winter) or under parasols in the attractive garden. Children welcome but only in the conservatory. The accommodation consists of four chalet style rooms overlooking the garden.
The Chequers reopened in mid-June 2019 after a refurbishment under new management: the couple who ran the popular Green Man in the neighbouring village of Thriplow.
