A popular high street Wetherspoon pub offering the widest choice of real ale in the local branch area from 17 handpumps. The pub opened in 1994 on the site of a 1930's cinema, explaining the Wizard of Oz theme which includes a huge sculpture of a lion. The pub contains a large L-shaped single bar with alcoves for small groups down one side. A variety of real ale styles are always offered, usually including beers from local microbreweries. Guest ales often include at least one porter or stout, often more. Customer suggestions for specific real ales are welcomed - indeed there is a book on the bar for this very purpose. The pub hosts regular mini beer festivals and other beer-related events including Meet the Brewer evenings. Ask about "CAMRA Nights", when a 50p/pint discount is available on purchases of cask ale simply on presentation of a valid CAMRA ID card (no voucher needed).
